Every year, I create a Christmas glitter art canvas, and this year's design was inspired by my nephew. He has fallen in love with Baby Yoda (a.k.a. The Child) from "The Mandalorian". I can't say I blame him so I was happy to make a glittery Baby Yoda canvas art for him to display in his bedroom.

It all starts with an abstract outline, and I'm happy to share our design with you so you can make your own. Just download our Baby Yoda in a Santa hat pattern and print it out. You can scale it to any size you need to fit your canvas, but keep in mind that if it is large enough for a "poster print" that spans several pages, you'll need to tape them together like I did.

Next, prep your canvas by painting it white.

After the basecoat dries, tape your pattern to the top of the canvas and carefully slide some black transfer paper underneath.

Then trace the pattern, transferring the outline to the canvas. I like to use a colored pen to trace so that I can easily tell where I have been.

Before you completely remove the pattern paper, double check the outline and make sure you didn't miss any spots.

Start by base coating the design with paint in the same colors as the glitter you will be using. In this case, I wanted the hat and ornament to be red, so base coated those areas with red acrylic paint. This step is VERY IMPORTANT for good coverage. If you skip the paint and jump right into glitter, it's not going to look good because you will see the white canvas through the clear glitter medium, and your colors won't be solid.

I then base coated Baby Yoda's little body with green acrylic paint.

With the base coating done, you can finally pick up that glitter paint. I used Craft Twinkles and a writer tip to fill in my image (a brush also works fine). Make sure you apply the glitter paint very liberally to maximize the sparkle.

As the wet glitter (shown on left) dries (shown on right), you can see the great coverage that the base coating gives you.

Once all the glitter dries, The Child will be ready to hang to bring some special Christmas joy to your decor.
