Mid-century Modern Console Table Makeover
I picked up an amazing mid-century modern console table up at a garage sale last summer and it has been hanging out in my library since then. I didn't mind the black paint job the previous owner had given it, but it was showing signs of wear, so I thought it was time for a refresh. The wood wasn't in good enough condition for me to restore the original wood finish, but I knew I could use paint to make a big change to brighten the piece.
Inspiration finally struck when I found some gorgeous faux terrazzo contact paper. I thought it would look great on the top of this console and would help hide a ton of the blemishes.
After smoothing the contact paper out across the top, I cut slit lines along the edge and folded the excess under to make a clean line.
I pulled the light grey color out of the paper's design and painted all the black areas with a really close match — Yesteryear from the Americana Decor Chalky Finish line.
This refurbished MCM console table really looks at home in library now. I left the base legs black for a nice contrast, making them stand out more.
The contact paper was a great way to quickly add a decorative finish to an old furniture piece that didn't have a smooth top. So far it's holding up very nicely, but if it gets too worn, I can just peel it off and replace it with a new piece!
