Inexpensive Patriotic Outdoor Candle Holders
I was shopping at the garden center recently and noticed a bunch of coated wire "sticks" on display. I wasn't sure what they were at first, and with the twisted coil at one end, I immediately thought they were candle holders.
When I looked closer, I saw they were labeled as "plant props" and were meant for holding up fragile saplings and plants.
Pretty handy tool for gardening, but that doesn't mean I can't still use them for what I though they were! Let me show you how I turned these 79-cent plant props into really inexpensive outdoor candle holders to line my walkway.
I decided to decorate my candle holders for the Fourth of July so I painted them red, white and blue with spray paint.
It took just one quick coat on each to get the coverage I needed.
I asked McGeeky to straighten the center of the spiral, bending it to form more or less a circle. (In retrospect, we probably should have bent them before painting, to avoid chipping.)
Then it was super easy to just poke the wires into the ground along the sidewalk.
Finally, I added my votive candle holders and squeeze the wire tight around them. This is a lot easier if you use a glass holder that has a lip, which will prevent it from sliding through the loop. I found my rimmed glass votive holders at Hobby Lobby but I have also seen them at the Dollar Store and Target.
For just a little over $1 each, I now have a set of cute candle holders to line my walkway for the Fourth of July weekend.
