I love how you can slide the cardboard cover off to see the meal inside without having to open the seal, too. It's a great way to choose which dish you're in the mood to eat for each meal.

How do Factor meals taste?

The Factor meals I tried in my first box were delicious. Aside from some personal preferences (I'm not crazy about carrots, which were a major component of one meal), everything was well-cooked, flavorful, and of great quality.

On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being "Frozen TV dinner" and 10 being "Home cooking", I would rank these meals a 7-8 on average.

Here's a great example of the quality and freshness in these prepared meals. Don't let the simple look of this Jalapeno-Lime Cheddar Chicken fool you... This chicken is perfectly cooked and the cheesy jalapeno sauce was amazing!

The beef dishes were very tasty, but I found the texture to be slightly off, probably due to the microwave reheating. I prefer my steak medium rare, so that could be the main issue for me. But they were still better than any beef frozen dinner entree that I've ever had.

The sauces the came with some dishes were an unexpected surprise and lent a fresh pop of flavor. For example, the sauce on this Chimichurri Short Rib meal was so flavorful and tangy that it brought everything up a notch (or two!)

Best and Worst Factor Meals

My favorite meal was the Queso Poblano Chicken, which came with potatoes, corn salsa, and chimichurri. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the corn was delicious — I could have eaten a whole bowl of it. And I could put that bright, flavorful chimichurri sauce on just about anything.

Another favorite of mine was the Chicken Southwest-Style Salad. The serving size was huge and it was packed with yummy additions to sprinkle on, each preserved in a little packet for ultimate freshness.

And the dressing... oh my goodness... can I get a bottle of that, please?

My least favorite was the Garlic Herb Filet Mignon and Shrimp. As I mentioned before, the beef was more done than I prefer, and I really don't like carrots. The shrimp was good, but considering it's labeled as a "Premium" meal, it just wasn't good enough for me to want to order again.

Are Factor meals healthy?

As I sampled the meals in my first Factor box, I was struck by two things that seemed at odds, especially for prepared meals — the meals were tasty AND they were healthy.

With all the diet-specific choices possible in the chef-prepared meal options, I was amazed that every single meal tasted great and had health-conscious numbers on the nutritional label as well.

"Healthy and tasty" is a combination I rarely see in frozen prepared meals from the grocery store, so this gives Factor a real plus in my book.

Is Factor worth it?
