If you want to get custom T-shirts printed and aren't sure which company to use, we tested SIX popular shirt printing companies and are here to share our results with you.

Custom shirt printing sites we tested:

VIDEO: Our full review

We did a thorough review of these shirts and shared our results in this video and I'll share a summary of our results below.

For each printing service, we tested:

  • The fit of the shirts - Were they comfortable and true to size?
  • The print quality - We compared color, consistency, and opacity
  • The print placement - Was the design centered and straight?

After trying them all on and comparing the prints, we determined our favorites!

How we compared the shirts and the printing

For each test, we had our logo printed in full color, at approximately 5-6" across. (Some printers let you specify the size, and others adjust the design size to fit the particular shirt size ordered.)

From each company, we ordered two shirts, one to fit me and one to fit Jo:

  • For me, we picked a size Small in whatever the most popular "Comfort" style was (ex: tri-blend).
  • For Jo, we picked a size XL in a whatever the least expensive "Value" style was (ex: classic or basic).

The actual shirt styles we purchased

Here are the specific shirts styles we purchased from each company. Remember that we chose the "comfort" style for my shirts and the "value" style for Jo's so that we could test different shirt qualities as well as the printing itself.

Comparing size differences across all shirts

The wide variety of sizes of the shirts we ordered, both in S and XL sizes, was astounding. We've stacked them up from smallest to largest so you can see the difference.

Here are all the size Small shirts in order of size (smallest is listed first)

  • CafePress
  • Zazzle
  • Canva
  • Printify
  • Redbubble
  • Printful

Here are the size XL shirts in order of size (smallest is listed first)

  • Canva
  • CafePress
  • Zazzle
  • Printify
  • Printful
  • Redbubble

Watch this chapter in our video to see a closer comparison of the size differences across shirts.

Our conclusion:
Printify has the most true-to-size shirts. If you order one of the shirt styles near the top of the lists, you may want to size up.

Comparing print quality across all shirts

To compare the print quality on the shirts, we looked at three factors: true color, consistency across prints, opacity, and clarify. We also looked at the stretchability and overall feel of the transfer itself.

Watch this chapter in our video to see our comparison about the print quality across shirts.

In summary:

  • Best color: Zazzle, Redbubble, Printful
  • Best consistency across multiple prints: Zazzle, Printful, Printful, Printify
  • Best opacity: Canva, Printful, Printify

Comparing print placement across all shirts

Getting your design printed in the middle of your shirt is super important, so we checked each shirt for centering (left to right) and rotation (straight up or tilted).

Watch this chapter in our video to see our comparison of the print placement across shirts.

In summary:

  • Best placement: Canva, CafePress, Printify

Our favorites for print quality

Judging based on print quality alone (color, placement, opacity, etc) and leaving the shirts themselves out of it (fit, comfort, feel), our favorites are: Canva and Printful.

Our overall favorite shirts

Taking into consideration the shirts themselves (fit, comfort, feel) as well as the printing quality, our all-around favorite printing companies are: Canva (pictured below) and Printify.

What's next?

We're going to start wearing and washing these shirts regularly and will report back on how well the transfers hold up to wear and tear.

In the meantime, if you've got any other printing companies you'd like us to test, leave them in the comments below.
