Golden Girls Party With a Cheesecake Bar Cart
When I had the idea to host a The Golden Girls themed party, I knew that cheesecake must be front and center. The best way I could think of to do that was with a cheesecake bar cart.
The overall design inspiration came from the famous living room furniture in Blanche's Miami home.
Ready to see how it all came together?
Transforming the bar cart
I started with this dated brass bar cart that a friend had given me. It was the perfect size and shape, just not the right look at all.
But those tube legs looked quite similar to their wicker furniture, so...
...I covered up all that brass with a can of spray paint in a nice tan color that matched the girls' iconic wicker furniture perfectly.
To dress up the glass shelves, we ordered some of our own replica Golden Girls couch fabric on a simple cotton twill, and attached it to the bottom of the glass with fabric Decou-Page.
These simple changes completely transformed that dated old cart! Once we decorated it and filled the shelves, it was a party just waiting to happen.
Decorating with printable Golden Girls partyware
Filling out the cart for our "Golden Girls" party was easy with the the numerous printable partyware options we created, all of which are available in our Golden Girls party printables collection.
You'll see these items pop up all over the party space. They also coordinate with our couch fabric design, so they all really drive the theme home.
Serving lots of cheesecake options
Of course, cheesecake was the main attraction! We had several flavors available for guests to choose from.
Toppings are key to creating the perfect slice, so we had several options. They were all labeled with tent cards from the printables set. They comes in multiple patterns, making it so easy to mix and match.
We also printed and assembled plenty of our cake slice favor boxes so that guests could easily take home a piece of leftover cheesecake.
Offering signature cocktails
We served a signature cocktail that we designed, called "Miami Fizz", and we dressed up plain cups with the "Thank you for being a friend" circles, which I printed onto Avery #22807 round 2" label stock to make them super easy to apply. We also offered water bottles wrapped in our "Shady Pines Retirement Home" labels, also from the printables set.
Which Golden Girl are you?
Everyone always identifies most with one of the Golden Girls, so we gave guests the opportunity to show it off. They could declare they are a Blanch, Sophia, Rose, or Dorothy with some fun name tags, printed on Avery #8395 name tag stock.
Customizable party banner
We brought the whole party space together with a banner that spelled out "cheesecake bar".
Adding coordinating fabrics to the party space
One last touch for the party was to add a rattan chair that I had on my patio. It was the perfect opportunity to use our coordinating banana leaf fabric from Blanche's bedroom to add some extra flair to the space with a quick cushion cover.
We used the smaller print version of the banana leaf fabric to sew some quick cocktail napkins for the cart. The two patterns work surprisingly well together.
The final party space
We couldn't be happier with how it all came together and our guests loved the theme. What a fun and lighthearted party this was for the girls!
