We love a good updating challenge here at Chica and Jo headquarters. We thought we had met our match though when our friends gave us this dated "beauty" of an old, brass bar cart and challenged us to "do something with it". It sat in my basement for quite a few months before inspiration struck. Let's lean in to the 80s style...

The Golden Girls is one of our favorite shows from the 80s (and ever, frankly) and it inspired us to create some amazing — a cheesecake cart!

Let's see how the pieces of this "Golden Girls" cheesecake cart came together. The overall design inspiration came from the famous living room furniture in Blanche's Miami home. I wanted to change the dated brass frame of the cart to look like the rattan frame on the couch. A few light coats of Rust-Oleum took care of that!

For the glass shelves, we knew we wanted to use the couch pattern, and debated a long time on how best to do that. We finally ended up designing our own replica Golden Girls couch fabric design that you can now purchase at Spoonflower. (Spoonflower will even print our designs on wallpaper or wrapping paper!)

We got the design printed onto a simple cotton twill fabric, then coated it in fabric Decou-Page to make it more durable and to seal it up so we could cut it without it fraying.

Once the fabric was thoroughly dry, we traced the shelves onto the back of the fabric and then cut it out. At this point, you can either use more Decou-Page to adhere it to the underside of each shelf or you can go the route we did and use spray adhesive. We worried that the Decou-Page glue might leave too many wrinkles but we can't say that for sure since we didn't try it.

With our cart drying, we worked on a project to incorporate the banana leaf fabric from Blanche's bedroom into the party. I had an old rattan chair that needed a new cushion so we used more fabric to sew a new cushion and coordinating striped pillow.

Chica is very resourceful and sometimes that provides the best solution. To make the pattern for cutting the chair cushion, she used the clear plastic bag from the foam insert and traced around the seat. It conformed easily to the rounded chair bottom and she could see exactly what she was doing!

Then she simply traced the newly-made pattern onto a piece of foam cushion and cut it out.

Look at how well the finished chair coordinated with the cart!

For our "Golden Girls" party, we decorated the cart and party space with lots of fun pieces from our Golden Girls party printables collection.

Of course, cheesecake was the main attraction!

We used tent cards to label our cheesecake toppings. Everything in the printables set comes in multiple patterns, making it so easy to mix and match.

Our cheesecake bar cart was well-stocked with plenty of cake slice favor boxes so that guests could easily take home a piece of leftover cheesecake.

We used the smaller print version of the banana leaf fabric to sew some quick cocktail napkins for the cart. The two patterns work surprisingly well together.

We served a signature cocktail called Miami Fizz and offered water bottles wrapped in our "Shady Pines Retirement Home" labels, also from the printables set. We decorated plain cups with the "Thank you for being a friend" circles, which I printed onto Avery #22807 round 2" label stock to make them super easy to apply.

Everyone has a Golden Girl she can identify with so we gave guests the opportunity to choose whether they are a Blanch, Sophia, Rose or Dorothy with some fun name tags, printed on Avery #8395 name tag stock.

We brought the whole party space together with a banner that spelled out "cheesecake bar".

We couldn't be happier with how it all came together and our guests loved the theme. What a fun and lighthearted party this was for the girls!
