For my Christmas bar cart this year, I have decided to embrace a green and gold motif. While shopping at Home Goods (one of my favorite places for unique finds at great prices), I spotted an adorable little reindeer figurine. I decided to make him into a decorative holder for my wine charms. He had the gold I wanted, but was missing some green…

Making the wooden base green was an easy enough fix. But instead of reaching for my usual multi-surface paints, I used Metallic Lustre wax to cover the brown base. I seriously love this stuff. It is so fun to “finger paint” with, the coverage is great, and it cleans up super easily, even though it seems like it wouldn’t. The label says to apply it with a soft cloth, but I always just use my finger.

While I waited for the holder to dry, I worked on some wine charms. This are super simple to make, as I am sure you have seen on multitudes of other sites, so I won’t bore you with too many details.

I picked up some gold and green beads and some earring hoops from the jewelry supply aisles at Michaels. The really cool find was a set of tiny gold Christmas-themed charms. I found them over in the section where they have the mini tree decorations.

Look at how perfectly those tiny charms work! I just threaded 3 gold beads, a green bead, the charm, a green bead, and 3 more gold beads. At this point, you could also add a bit of glue to each end to make sure that the beads don’t accidentally slide off when opening and closing the hoops.

I hung the charms on my sweet reindeer’s antlers and I couldn’t be happier. If you can’t find this exact reindeer, you can find lots of other versions that will work just great and match your home decor. This would also make an inexpensive and thoughtful hostess present this time of year.

The charms look so pretty on my seasonal green champagne flutes, which I also picked up at Home Goods!

LOVE this idea! Although our whole family is not going to be together this year I will keep this in mind for next year, as everyone drinks wine in our family except for my mom, the teetotaler. :-) And I know those charms, I thought they were a great product, but I may get some earrings from the holiday jewelry section when they go clearance!
