Desk front finished In a previous post, I told you all about refurbishing an old headboard for my daughter’s new room. That project went so well, I decided to redo my husband’s old desk to go in her room as well. The general process was basically the same for both pieces and the difference in the before and after shots is unbelievable. I still marvel at what a can of paint can do for some tired wooden furniture!

Veil As you plan your wedding, you’ll fast discover that most wedding-related things are quite expensive, and you can easily overspend almost without realizing it. One of the surprise costs as you shop for your wedding day attire is the veil, which can easily cost a couple hundred dollars for the simplest of designs. Disneyland ScrapbookWhen we went to Disneyland, I was fortunate enough to wander into a shop that had scrapbooking supplies in it. I was so excited to see a scrapbook made especially for Disneyland. I snapped it up to take home with me and the surprises kept on coming. push_pin_painting_2.jpg I was repainting some large wooden letters for my daughter’s new “big girl room” the other night while Chica was over. I had finished the first coat on about four of the letters and was going back to do the second coat when I noticed they had kind of stuck to the cardboard I had placed them on to dry and I had to peel them off. I looked over at Chica smirking at me and asked her if she had any tips on preventing something like this from happening. push_pin_painting_1.jpg And she replied, “As a matter of fact, I do!” Well, of course she does! Chica had the same problem when she was repainting her small nightstand for the second time. She used some simple push pins inserted in the bottom of the drawers to act as feet. This worked perfectly for me! A few of the push pins in the back elevated the letters for drying and also provided me a handle for painting the edges of the letters.

For some brides, tradition is of greatest importance and that’s exactly the type of shower they want. Other brides, though, are up for something more unusual, and if you’re lucky enough to be throwing a shower for a bride like that, I’ve got some great ideas for fun activities that will make the shower memorable and unique.
