Easy fall hostess gift
I always like to arrive at a dinner party with a little something and I like to be prepared with some seasonal options that go beyond just a gift in a bag. On a recent shopping trip to Michaels, I saw these cute baskets that were obviously made to hold a bottle of wine. I couldn’t just pop the bottle in there and call it a day though. I had to mess with it!
I wanted to try blending Color Stains together to make some fall leaves. I used an adhesive stencil and started dabbing on the paint, working from dark on the edges to light in the middle, without letting it dry in between colors.
The multi-color effect worked really well on the leaves, and gave them a great fall look.
To get my message across, I wanted to add a little banner to the handle. I used little wooden leaves that are actually called “scatter”, and are typically what you toss on your tables to help decorate for a party. I guess scatter is different than confetti because you would never throw this stuff! I glued little wooden letters spelling “THANKS” onto each leaf and then hot glued the leaves onto some string.
I wanted to consider an option besides wine to put in the basket, because wine is not a good choice for everyone. In case you are wondering, it’s always a good option for me and Chica if you come visit! I went with little mini pies. I just stacked them right up with a circle of white cardboard between each one to keep them from smushing. A basket of mini pumpkin pies would be perfect to take to a Thanksgiving feast.
And if pies aren’t your thing, a bottle of wine works well, too.
