Simple DIY citrus canvas for the kitchen
I love the citrus trend happening right now and what better place to use it then the kitchen for the summer? I wanted to add a touch of citrus to my home, and when I saw these flour sack towels at Target (which of course I had to buy) I had my inspiration for a little canvas painting. Don’t be frightened, it’s super simple!
If you are great at doing fancy lettering, good for you! I, however, am not, so I printed out a copy of the text I wanted and transferred it to my canvas. This text came from a photocopy of one of the flour sack towels that I’d purchased at Target.
Next, I used Americana Lemon Yellow to make sloppy circles all over the canvas. As you can see, my canvas is long and narrow. I thought it was a cute shape. Please, don’t worry about making perfect circles with full coverage. It actually looks better if you don’t.
I made the citrus segments by using a mix of white and Americana Pineapple. Again, this isn’t exact, and you want it to be uneven so that it looks natural.
Following my inspiration flour sack towel, I used a black paint paint pen to roughly outline each lemon slice. I also used it to fill in the “squeezed” letters which was a lot easier than hand-painting them with a brush.
