80s Memphis style decoupaged vase
McGeeky and I are kids of the 80s and we wanted to bring back some of our childhood by decorating our rec room with some 80s style. We are trying to do a mix of vintage finds and new DIY creations. I knew I wanted a pop of Memphis style but didn’t know where I would add it until I saw the perfect blank wooden vase form from Michaels.
I first basecoated the front and back in white and then did the sides in a glossy black.
Then I traced the vase onto the backside of a graph paper pattern that I found online (thanks Google!) and printed.
I decoupaged the graph paper to the vase and then started adding fun triangles and circles. For each one, I first created the shadow piece out of black paper, then cut the same size shape out of a colored or patterned paper.
When I applied the pieces, I just offset them a bit to give it that oh-so-80s look!
This project was super simple and so much fun. I love the whimsical style and think a couple of throw pillows and this vase is just enough to make the style pop in the room without going overboard. The 80s were all about excess but we are trying to tone it down just a smidge in the room.
