I was trying to come up with new ideas on how to use my stencil collection. I love stencils as they are but I also love to do something out of the ordinary with everyday crafting tools. This past weekend, I used my stencils to create cute patterns on the bread plates for my aunt’s birthday dinner. Take a look!

I started with some butter at room temperature, a bread/salad plate, and DecoArt’s Gloss Enamels adhesive stencils. It’s very important that the stencils are already adhesive-backed so that they stay firmly in place while you spread the butter without you having to add any toxic adhesive sprays.

Place your stencil where you want on the plate and smear on a thick coating of butter.

Then remove the stencil. That’s it! For the second line on the other side of the plate, I didn’t even wash the stencil or add  more butter. I just smushed the butter that was already on there into the stencil holes. I could easily have done this on all four sides of the plate.

I had such fun that I decided to add another stencil to the middle for a different look. How gourmet would you look if your guests sat down to a place setting with this on top?

But wait! There’s more! I started getting carried away. The stencil even worked directly on my slice of bread!

And the possibilities are endless. This is ketchup in the middle of this plate. I imagine chocolate sauce would work well too but I had to stop playing around since my guests were about to arrive!
