I always know I am in trouble when Rita shows up on my doorstep with a grin on her face and a Jo bribe in her hand. Yesterday, she was also toting a box full of old boxes. I wondered why on earth she was bringing all of her recyclables to my house. Well, as I showed you a little on Facebook yesterday, we were making robot centerpieces for her son’s (my godson’s) upcoming first birthday. I had already helped her decorate the robot invitations and now it was time to do something similar for the tables. What fun!
Rita had been saving all sorts of boxes and containers of various shapes and sizes for a couple of weeks in order to create the bodies for the robots. We played around with them until we had assemblies that we liked.
After deciding on which containers went with which, we used our trusty aluminum foil to cover the entire structure, then we decorated them. There’s really no right or wrong way to do these robot centerpieces, you are limited by your imagination and materials at hand.
Here they all are grouped on a table together. We decorated them with items that I happened to have lying around the craft room. Those of you who went to the CHA Summer 2010 show will probably recognize the sunglasses I got from the Cricut booth. I think the little robot guy looks pretty cool in his shades! I will share pictures of the robot centerpieces in the party space with you when I do the wrap-up of the party. I can’t wait to see the robot centerpieces on the decorated tables!
If you’re throwing a robot-themed party, here are some suggestions for additional party decor:
