Mother’s Day is coming up Sunday and I bought my mom a gift card and a small present to go with it. (Just so you know, it isn’t the ones pictured below so that I wouldn’t give the surprise away!) Anyway, I needed a small box to hold my gift and gift card. Instead of running to the store to buy something, I decided to make a pillow box myself. And, lucky for you, I included the template for you so you can make your own! Here’s how to do it:
First, pick out a pretty piece of card stock that’s at least 8.5″ x 11″ (don’t use thin paper, it is too flimsy). Then gather together some scissors, a ruler or straight edge, double sided tape, and a bone folder.
Print out our free box template onto regular paper and cut the template out along the solid exterior lines.
Now place your template on the back side of your paper to trace it. My paper’s back happened to be dark brown so I used a silver Sharpie so I could see the tracing lines. Use your ruler or straight edge and the bone folder to make your fold lines. Simply trace all of the dotted lines with the bone folder pressing hard enough to leave an impression on your card stock.
Cut your shape out of your card stock. Start folding along all of the scored lines.
Put a strip of double-sided tape along the tab to secure it to the long side of the box. The tape will go on the decorative side of your paper.
Press the two sides of the box together to secure it to the tape. Now fold in the flaps on one of the sides.
Put your items into the box at this point. You can add some confetti or tissue paper as well. Fold in the flaps to close the box and the gift is ready to be given!
