My daughter, Little Jo, can come up with some odd requests. This past weekend, she told me she “needed” green shoes for Saint Patrick’s Day. Green glitter shoes, no less. Hmmm… Okay, I could try to find some. I went to my favorite store, Target, to look. I know they usually have glitter shoes in colors like silver, red, black, and pink throughout the year, so maybe, just maybe, they would have green. No dice, but they did have white glitter shoes. Well, that can be easily fixed, right?
I brought the shoes home and grabbed my trusty can of green spray paint.
Then I sprayed them. So easy and yet, so effective. While the paint was still wet, I sprinkled on some green glitter. I allowed the shoes to dry for about 30 minutes and then I sprayed a coat of clear acrylic sealer over the paint and glitter to try and keep the glitter from falling off everywhere.
Little Jo loves her new, green glitter shoes. At least she did until she put them on and promptly told me they were too small. She apparently wears a size 12 now and not an 11. When did that happen? Sigh. Luckily, she is a trooper and said that they didn’t hurt so bad that she couldn’t wear them for one day.

I did something similar years ago when my dd wanted to be Dorothy for Halloween. This was before the days of store bought red sparkle shoes. I got some shoes from a thrift store, used red spray paint and glitter. I don’t recall if I used any type of top coat or sealer. We lost a lot of the glitter after a day of Halloween activities. Also the paint cracked in the places that bend. However, they worked okay for that one time.

so all i have to do is spend money and then spraypaint them green so i can only wear them once. yay!!
Molly, Little Jo didn’t care that they were green, she wore them all the time with everything anyway! Well, at least for a couple of months until she grew out of them. Kids grow so fast!
oh Molly, to right! although green is the in color at the moment, i would so wear these if my child, Donald would for some reason not wear his!
Any tricks for getting those Target shoes to stay on the kids feet? I bought the little sparkly white ones in the correct size and my kids spent the whole day with them dangling off her feet or carrying them around because they fell off. I considered two-sided tape inside them, but was afraid that might cause some life-long, deep-seated trauma!
Melissa, I have had that same problem with Little Jo. I end up buying those a size smaller for her and they fit. They seem to run quite large! The double-sided tape doesn’t sound like such a bad idea!
