Giveaway – Crop-A-Dile eyelet and snap tool Posted by Jo
March 2, 2010
Jo

First, let me congratulate Kathy Mormino, the lucky winner of our most recent giveaway. Kathy will be receiving a HP Deskjet D2660 printer. What a great tool for the modern crafter, especially if you’re looking to print out the tons of free downloads we have here on ChicaAndJo.com

Now I’d like to announce our next giveaway!

I can’t tell you how many times Chica and I have sat in a room full of scrapbookers and cringed at the sounds they make when hammering grommets and eyelets onto their work. Nothing startles you in a quiet crafting environment quite like the bang of a tiny hammer against an eyelet setter, right? I have to admit that we used to be just as guilty as the next person, at least until we discovered the Crop-A-Dile. The what, you ask?

Oh the Crop-A-Dile is so clever… and QUIET too! This all-in-one tool can punch holes in two sizes, but it can also set eyelets, grommets, and snaps. It can be used on just about any material, thick or thin, including paper, leather, plastic, chipboard, acrylic, fabric, wood, and more!

We love it so much that we’re giving away a brand new Crop-A-Dile, complete with a custom case and 240 assorted eyelets!

Crop-A-Dile giveaway

Some of the features of this Crop-A-Dile package are:

  • eyelet and snap setter that can handle various styles and sizes
  • 1/8″ hole punch
  • 3/16″ hold punch
  • adjustable guides for convenient hold placement
  • measuring marks for each guide placement
  • 240 eyelets included – 30 each of 8 different styles
  • custom storage case with divided compartments for storing eyelets

And the best part about the Crop-A-Dile (besides being so quiet) is that it’s so easy to squeeze. The first time I used one, I didn’t think it actually punched the hole because I’d hardly squeezed at all and it made no noise. But I had actually cut through several layers of cardstock and chipboard and didn’t even realize it. I knew right away I had to have one.

WINNERS: Congratulations to our winner, Sarah! Her comment was:

178. Sarah: I love making things from used items and good tools are always needed. I would use this to punch holes in any material possible!

Sarah, you will be amazed at just how many materials this will work with. Just last week I used mine to punch holes in an old CD and it worked so beautifully that I couldn’t believe it. We can’t want to hear about the projects create!

Thanks to everyone else who entered. You all had some really wonderful ideas on how to use the Crop-A-Dile and we’ve been really inspired to use ours more.

For those of you who didn’t win, please keep an eye on our giveaways page for our next giveaway. And I’ll let you in on a secret — we’ve got more Crop-A-Diles coming later this year, so stick around and maybe you’ll win next time!

I would start using eyelets again, I LOVE the look of them, but I hate the little tool I have to use with them.

My girlfriend is getting married in September and I am designing her shower invitations. This would be a great tool to have!

    3. Kelli said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 9:08 am)

Oh my goodness what excellent timing! I was just pricing a cropadile at my local craft stores on Sunday. I have so many projects in mind; tags, wall art, and curtains are the top 3 I’m working on right now that a cropadile would help me with! Crossing my fingers I win! :)

    4. Kelly W said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 9:10 am)

I don’t really scrapbook but I do all other types of crafting. This would help me in so many ways.

    5. Kelli said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 9:18 am)

Thanks for the giveaway! I would LOVE this! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve drooled over this at Hobby Lobby! My baby boy is about to start walking, which means I can make him some of those cute projects and cloths featured in the “Celebrate the boy” month! I would LOVE to make him a simple drawstring backpack so he can be a bigboy and carry his books and toys around by himself! (I know, I could do that without grommets, but let’s be honest, it just looks more Done with some, don’t you think?) Thanks again!

    6. Elizabeth said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 9:18 am)

I would use this set to make all kinds of cute cards.

    7. Iisha said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 9:22 am)

I could so use this to make mini photo albums. How fun!

    8. Jenn said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 9:24 am)

I’ve been wanting to get into crafting with eyelets for ages- I’ve seen so many cute projects that I’ve wanted to try out. I want to make notebooks, hanging calendars, embellish the homemade cards I make out of cardstock, bookmarks with little ribbons! Not to mention I’ve been wanting to build a DIY compost bin for my apartment, but couldn’t think of anything that would put a hole through a plastic container for air circulation except for tools that I may not be able to use for other projects– looks like this would be the answer!

    9. Sarah Sarniak said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 9:35 am)

I would love to win this. If I won it I would probably do more eyelets and ribbons in my scrapbooking pages. Thanks!

    10. Jackie said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 9:50 am)

I’ve heard so many great things about this tool. I’d love to see what things I could do with it since I’m not super familiar with it. I’d love to not have to hammer my eyelets.

    11. Jaymie Williams said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 10:01 am)

I would love to use eyelets again! I HATE draging out the hammer and tools just to do one eyelet! I have been wanting one of these!!!

    12. Emily said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 10:10 am)

I would use it for cards and scrapbooking. Also, I would use it to help my niece with her wedding this summer — invitations, favors, decorations, etc!

    13. Kathryn said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 10:35 am)

I would love it as grommets go good with everything.

    14. Becca said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 10:38 am)

I was going to purchase one of these at Walmart the other day, but I dint want to spend money on something I didnt thnk Id use too much and/or know what it REALLY did. I create ATCs and have a stash of Eyelets that i want to try, but silly me I dont have an eyelet setter. I would love to try this tool!

    15. Natalie said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 10:53 am)

I want to use it to set eyelets on vinyl to use in purses. Thanks!

    16. Janessa Clare said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 10:55 am)

I would use it for eyelets and grommets! I have been waiting to do a few crafts that require those and just haven’t bought a setter yet!

    17. Jenna Paramore said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 10:56 am)

I shouldn’t have looked at this in public because just the thought of such an awesome tool is inducing indecent amounts of drool! As a recovering Bedazzler addict I can seriously appreciate the ease with which you said this tool works. I finally gave up on my Bedazzlr and moved onto needle-nose pliers. It’s like I’m living in arts and craft dark ages! Between clothing, screen printing and paper crafts I would never put this tool down.

    18. Paige said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 11:05 am)

What an awesome tool! I don’t have one yet, but I would use it on a lot of projects, from curtains to clothing.

    19. pattyjo said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 11:09 am)

Thats an awesome giveaway and you can put my name in the hat. Thanks for having the giveaway and for a chance.

    20. Ashley said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 11:20 am)

I would use it for wall art (to begin) as I’m in the process of decorating my daughters room. Oh the possibilities with this tool are endless!

    21. JillyB said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 11:31 am)

I would add a whole new flair to my daughter’s baby book that I am diligently filling out! I’m sure I would be inspired to snazz up lots of projects around the house too.

    22. Fe said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 11:40 am)

Wow… what a cool tool. I would use it for making gift bags and it would be mighty useful in adding snaps for my gift card holders. What an excellent giveaway.

    23. Robyne said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 11:49 am)

How cool would this be???? I would love to get back to making cards again and I think that this might just do the trick! I’m keeping my fingers crossed on this one! Thanks for offering it up.

    25. Kris said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:14 pm)

I saw this on clearance at walmart the other day. I was not sure if I would use it. But now that I have read all these posts I have all kinds of ideas. Now I want it. Please give it to me.

    26. Nicole Burris said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:21 pm)

I see some cool shirts in the works if I win!

    27. Barb said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:29 pm)

I have so many ideas floating around in my head, I don’t what’s what. I would repair some of the kids’ drawstring backpacks, make some of the crafts I was not too enthused about because of the hammering of the grommets and such. Oh, so many things.

    28. Melissa said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:34 pm)

I would love to win this! It would be great for adding eyelets and grommets to all my sewing projects… bags especially. Thanks for the chance!

    29. Casey said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:43 pm)

I would use the Crop-A-Dile to embellish the hundreds of recycled cards I make each year. I LOVE texture and “lumpy” cards – flat will never do! Thanks!

    30. Laura in 'bama said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:47 pm)

Oh so many project ideas! I could use one now for a notepad holder I’m making – I bet it would make it easy to put holes in this heavy chipboard!

    31. Kim said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:50 pm)

What a neat tool! I’d use the Crop-A-Dile to make birthday banners, holiday banners, and all sorts of crafy projects to decorate the mantle for the special days in our household. :)

    32. Noreen said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:51 pm)

A Crop-A-Dile would be so handy to punch the holes in homemade sewing cards for kids. And grommets would make book spines so much more durable than just holes when you are making kids’ books.

    33. Hazel said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:54 pm)

I work at my church in a pre-school setting. I would help use the Crop-A-Dile to help the children make crafts for their parents. It would especially be fun to make Mothers Day Cards with the Crop-A-Dile. We would have so much fun making crafts with this tool! Thank you for the opportunity to try to win this fun tool!

    34. Kay said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 12:55 pm)

I would love to win the Crop-a-Dile. All those grommets. Oh!!!!!!!!! Thanks for having this.

    35. Sheryl said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 1:00 pm)

Oh, I would love to be able to do gromets and eyelets! Not only in cards, but in homemade gifts I am working on for my friends and family. Also to make some things for our tent when hubby and I go camping.

    36. Peggie said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 1:18 pm)

You would not believe this but I just ordered a pattern for a purse that has grommets all the way around. I asked “how do you do those” and was told “there is a tool for that” Then WAAAAALAAAAAAAA my email comes with your update and there you are giving away the very tool I need!!! WOW I hope I win!!!!!

      Thanks for the chance anyway!

    43. Rena said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 2:24 pm)

As to what I would use the Crop-A-Dile for, it will come in real handy for my wedding in July. Would juse it for the hole punch for ribbons on the menu cards and as I’m not doing a triditional guest book but hanging sign in cards from a branch, this will come in very handy.

    44. Patti said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 2:32 pm)

I make corduroy shirts for men as gifts and prefer to use snaps rather than buttons and buttonholes. This would be a GREAT tool for all those snaps! I also make or mend shower curtains from time to time and need a tool like this for those pesky grommets. I’m sure with the proper tool, I’d find more uses for it than I’ve even imagined until now!

    45. Amy said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 2:37 pm)

I will use it to make some hanging easter decorations for my fireplace!

This sounds like a great tool to have. And it can be used for sewing as well!

    46. sunny said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 2:49 pm)

i would use it to make a banner. it would look really nice to have ribbon strung through the eyelets.

    47. Mary Norman said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 3:05 pm)

      I think I would be in Crop-a-heaven !!!!
I love doing food crafts too. And crafts having to do with a particular holiday. Like Dr Seuss right now.
      Thanks, Mary

    48. Nicki C K said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 3:12 pm)

ooooooooh, I have wanted one of these for a while! Right now I am one of those people you hear hammering away. :-) I have SO many ideas of what to use it for!!
I will use it… to add grommets to a custom shower curtain, to put rings into a fabric ABC book for my daughter, to make a row of eyelets to weave ribbon through on the dress I am sewing, to make my sisters wedding invitations and of course for my card making & scrapbooking.
Thank you for the chance to win! *fingers crossed*

    49. Melissa R said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 3:27 pm)

I use my hammer quite often, tap tap tap….
Eyelets are cool for decoration and for connecting things. Can’t wait to use all those 240 of them!

    50. Joanne said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 3:28 pm)

OMG I would love to own one of these – there are so many craft projects that I could use this on. You guys are the best to be giving this away.

    51. Jo-Anne Jackson said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 3:34 pm)

Many people don’t know the trick for making shrink plastic items. I recently found out that #6 clear plastic, the plastic that many clamshell design take-out foods come in, is the same plastic as shrink plastic. Color on it with Sharpies and then hit it with a heat gun (or put in oven) and voila, you will have a beautiful pendant, earrings, suncatcher…etc. If I had the Crop-A-Dile I would use it to punch holes in this plastic for all of my students to make charms. I am a middle-school art teacher.

    52. Deb said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 4:25 pm)

Ive only used a crop-a-dial once at a scrapbooking workshop once. I loved it. It sure beats using the hammer. Besides, I can only scrapbook once the babies are asleep and you cant use the hammer and eyelet setter then!

    53. sara said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 4:27 pm)

i would venture into the world of eyelets if I had one of these

    54. monica said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 4:53 pm)

i am new to crafting and i stumbled across a craft project on a blog one day that i would love to try that involves using a crop-a-dile. ive collected every other supplies i need: cardstock, scor-pal… and cannot find a crop-a-dile… they do not sell them where i live.:(

    55. kathy s said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 5:47 pm)

I would gladly pay for shipping on this tool set- it looks and sounds fabulous – I would use it to diminish my stash of eyelets (-I dont like using them because it scares my pets when I start hammering at them-) I would also use it to create some baby clothes for my grandchildren with snaps again I hate to hammer these and usually end up hitting too hard and putting a hole in the material instead

    56. Brenda Obregon said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 6:19 pm)

Aloha from Hawaii where I would use the Crop-a-dile to bind books and make sewing cards for our library storytime crafts. Thank you.

    57. Debbi Miller said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 6:29 pm)

My oldest daughter is getting married this fall/winter and I will be making various items for the wedding. I think this will help with making items for the photo booth, table decorations and the wedding book! I also make bags and anything that can be sewn. I have had bad experiences with grommets and snaps and kinda just chucked the idea and never went back! I like easy-peasy crafting tools! It would be fun to use with my job also as a Lead Teacher at Hawaii Early Start Program, think of all the cute items I could hang around the room and all the great artwork the kids will make hanging around the room!!! Oh to dream!!!!

    58. Janet said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 6:32 pm)

Ive done grommets the old way…. leading to bruised fingers and some not-so-nice language.
This looks like it would come in handy!

    59. BreAn said: (March 2nd, 2010 at 8:00 pm)

I do a little of card making but more sewing projects. I make cute clothes for my two little girsl (2 3), and make some fun bags and purses. This would help me easily add some decorative touches!

I hate, hate, hate, struggling with those little pieces and a hammer. This little set looks inspiring in and of itself. I need to create and sew a new cell phone holder. I’m already coming up with new and exciting ideas that would incorporate grommets and snaps!! Should I win, I will send you pics.

    68. Stephanie Johnson said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 9:22 am)

I’ve been wanting one of these for some time now, but haven’t been able to justify the purchase. It would be so great to win it!!! The Crop-A-Dile is great for eyelets, making holes for tags, threading ribbon, punching borders, making designs (smiley faces)and of course for projects for the kids. Thanks so much for offering these great give-aways!

    69. Terri La masa said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 10:12 am)

My Crop A Dile is used to make holes in CDs, then I stamp on the with Stazon and attach three of them in a row….I hang them from our berry bushes to keep the birds away!!!

    70. Jeanne said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 12:42 pm)

My first thought is that it would be a great tool to put eyelets and grommets in something really three-dimensional that is too difficult or small to use the hammering method. For instance, I think the Crop-a-dile would be perfect for placing eyelets and/or grommets around the bottom edge of this lampshade I’ve been wanting to decorate. Thanks for the giveaways! And the great postings! And yes, everything seems to be working just fine. So thanks also for the site improvements!

    71. Rita said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 1:56 pm)

This tool looks so awesome! If I had this tool I would be a lot more inspired to finish my wedding scrapbook and work on my son’s baby book. I could use a lot of the ribbons and charms I’ve found to string on the pages.

    72. Cathie said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 2:27 pm)

My husband is the room “mom” for our son’s 1st grade class, and lots of times it falls upon us to get something crafty started for all the kids. I’m sure this would come in very handy very often!

    73. Wanda said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 3:23 pm)

I noticed your new give-a-way and was looking at it in my local Wal-mart. I’m near Lexington, KY, in the Asbury College and Seminary town of Wilmore. These are pretty nifty things and I could think of a lot of things I could do with it. I love snaps and like the look of eyelets, though I’ve never used them. Our Wal-mart has the Crop-a-dile’s on sale. They have the kit you show and a larger fancier Crop-a-dile. So, if I don’t win I’ll check out my Wal-mart, again. I’m new to this site and really enjoy reading it.

    74. Martha said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 5:28 pm)

My daughter has been coveting one of these. She’s much craftier than I am and I know she has a number of projects up her sleeve. Hopefully at least one will be for me. :)

    75. Nicole said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 5:36 pm)

      wow!
      this would be awesome.
I got a ton of eyelets from my neighbor that moved years ago, but never a tool to put them to use.
I would definitely use this to make some cute seasonal cards!!

    76. Patsy said: (March 3rd, 2010 at 11:03 pm)

I’d love to have a simple to use tool to set gromets. I’d use it mainly for costumes, such a corset for a Renniasance Fair type outfit. I’d also use it to “rivet” metal to fabric by having a nice finished hole to stitch the metal to the fabric. Depending on the size of gromets, I am looking to make a sunshade that slides on guide wires for our back deck this summer.
My 15 year old daughter comes up with so many creative ways to make clothes- I’m sure she would love to use this tool too.

Wow! I’d never seen this before! I have stopped doing projects that needed grommets because I was tired of fighting with the grommet tools from the craft store! I’ve made kids cinch drawstring bags before and almost ruined them because the grommets didn’t work quite right! Arrrggghhh!
This looks awesome! Can’t wait to try it! I hope I win!

I have just started on my leather line of purses. I was very fortunate to come into some recycled leather remnants from a local furniture store. I also was the recipient of some free silk remnants from a Silk Tie maker. So, Now I am busy busy making clutches and kindle covers but wanted a way to make them with a wrist fob, or a bangle bracelet, even a full on detachable strap. This device would be PERFECT! I could make all sorts of eyelets, and complete my project without a hammer, and luck! I have been an avid follower of this site, and never had the guts to post a comment, but this is well worth a bit of “stuff the shyness”. Thank you for the opportunity!

What a great prize! There are so many great things I cound use this for, sewing and paper crafting. I could use this today for boy scout centerpieces and prizes!

I make cards and I scrapbook and love the look of ribbons and twine on my projects. I hate to use eyelets because I can NEVER get them on straight or they are smashed. I end up really frustrated when I work with them. I would LOVE to win the crocodile and try a bunch of new, cute things to do with my crafts.

My sistr has one and I used it to decorate the bim of a baseball cap. And put new holes in a belt. It was great! I’d love to have one of my own.

That’s amazing! I actually just bought eyelets the other day, before realizing that I have no idea how I’m going to set these things. Thanks!

My husband is disabled due to early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Because of this, since I’m his primary care giver, I can’t work outside our home.

Getting this tool would allow me to do a lot more of the arts & crafts and sewing that I currently now do as a hobby. Hopefully, I’d then be able to turn my hobbies into a business.

A lot of my sewing projects require eyelets or grommets, so this definately would make doing them a lot easier and faster.

What wouldn’t I use it for?! LOL I’m on a baby stuff making kick right now and there are so many things that I use snaps for. And I think it would be great at my Monday night scrapbook group.

“Sh-h-h-h” seems to be all I say at my house since having a baby girl 4 months ago. Needless to say, I absolutely can not use my old school eyelet setter for fear of waking the entire house. Therefore, my endless list of projects and ideas are stalled. But, with this tool, I could get started again–right after the 3 am feeding with no worries!! Ah-h-h-h!!

I have wanted one of these for a long time. I homeschool my 6 yo. dd and I could see us using it on all kinds of projects for homeschool, sewing, and anything else we can get our hands on!

    201. Tasha Clark said: (March 13th, 2010 at 10:57 pm)

I have just started using snaps & want to start using eyelets & grommets too. Have been looking at getting one of these as mine end up wonky as I don’t have a very good eye for level’s, this would be easier to measure from the edges & at the moment I am using a hammer to fix it to my card!

    202. amy h said: (March 14th, 2010 at 10:10 am)

I could definitely see using this for my friend baby shower invites and for my sewing projects to add ribbons and all sort of fun and fancy things! Thanks for the chance!

I think this might be that something.
