Want to try something new for your Halloween decor this year? When you pull the old decorations from storage, reach for the Easter box too. Easter? Yup, we're going to transform plastic eggs into Halloween spiders!

We love upcycled holiday decorations, and when it's for kid-friendly crafts, it's even better. And this one is a doozy, just requiring simple plastic Easter eggs and a few craft supplies.

VIDEO: How to make spiders from plastic eggs

DIY Halloween spiders made from Easter eggs

To turn those pastel plastic eggs into bases for your frightful Halloween spiders, just spray paint black. We like to use Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover in Gloss Black because it sticks really well to plastic and has a great shine. TIP: to keep them from blowing away while you paint, use the masking tape trick shown in the video above.

To create the spider legs, cut 2" pieces of black chenille stems (a.k.a. pipe cleaners), eight for each spider, then give each one a gentle bend.

Put a little dab of hot glue on the end of each leg...

...then stick them onto the egg, four on each side. Make sure you hold them in place until the glue sets up.

To make the spiders extra cute, use white and black acrylic paint pens to draw on eyes and a goofy grin.

If you want the spiders to hang easily, just tape a piece of clear monofilament (fishing line) inside the egg and close it up, creating the perfect dangling string of spider web.

Aren't they adorable? What a fun and easy kids' craft, and it upcycles, too!
