Help with a table cover Posted by Jo

Dear readers, I need a little inspiration.  I was trying to upcycle some items to make a table covering for our Chili cook-off party on Saturday.  So far, I took two flannel shirts donated by my aunt and pieced them together for the top.  I like the top of the table.  The sides of the table, not so much.

I would like to use some of the leftover blue jean butts from making the denim pouches to do something around the edge of the table.  Ideas?  Suggestions?  Keep in mind that I need to be careful that the sides aren’t too heavy.

You could make bags to hang over the edge of the table with the back pockets to hold utensils and napkins.

use the top portion with the loops, and you can hang chili peppers off of them :)

I’d use some lightweight chambray to make a “skirt” for the sides, then add pockets or patches made from the denim as accents. Or, same idea with the chambray “skirt”, but cut off the waistbands with the loops and use as trim where the skirt and the flannel comes together. I actually like that even better.

How about cutting around the pockets (so they’re still attached to the back) and then sew them around the edges of the tablecloth. You can put the silverware and napkins in them. . . .

It looks like if you made a corner fit, you could almost us this as a twin sheet for the bed. I guess you could also fit the corners of the table so it lays flat on the table without puckering. With the cost of sheets anymore, and more use in the flannel shirt, either would work….If it lay ed flat on the table without excess flannel falling over the edge, you could sew a half pocket or full pocket as needed, ( depending on how many sittings there would want ) on the top of the table, to place your fork, knife and spoon into the pocket. I don’t think this would work if you have part of the table cloth handing down over the edge because of the weight and inconvenience of the silverware. You might have to run elastic along the sides in addition to the fitted corners, so everything is laying flat on the top of the table. Using plastic forks and spoons would certainly take some of the weight off of the sides or if fitted, you could use color of plastic ware to highlight the colors of you flannel.
Hope that helps or gives you an idea you can run with. I enjoy your site so much. You are soooo talented..keep it coming…:) Tauna

Perhaps trim the edges in denim fabric from old jeans, then cut out the backs only of the jean butts and secure to the hem, two to a corner so it kind of hugs the table? The pockets could hold extra napkins. :)

      BTW … Love your site!!
