I am a relatively new, but incredibly loyal, follower of The Pioneer Woman. This blog is written by Ree Drummond, a former “city girl” who turned her life around on a dime and followed true love (nicknamed Marlboro Man) out to the country, where she found herself more at home than she ever imagined. It may sound like a soap opera, but it’s real life, and it’s really good. If you visit her blog (and I strongly suggest you do), you should start by reading the story of how she met her husband. Once you’re done wiping the tears from your eyes, dig deep into her site and check out her useful photography tips, adorable pictures of her dog Charlie, and heartwarming stories about life on the ranch with cowboys and kids.

And then, when you’ve had your fill off all that goodness, get ready to drool at her recipes. Besides having a wonderful section of her site devoted to cooking, she has a newly-launched sub-site called Tasty Kitchen, which is a great, developing user community full of fantastic recipes (we’ve posted some of ours there too). And if that’s not enough, this amazing woman has a new cookbook out, too!
You’ll see pretty quickly after looking through the recipes available that everything The Pioneer Woman makes looks great, but Jo and I singled out two of the most appetite-inducing and tried them out this week. We were not disappointed with the results in the slightest little bit. In fact, it was more like “thrilled beyond belief”.
The first recipe we tried was her Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Thingies. Here’s her photo of the finished recipe. How can you resist all that bacon and cream cheese in a yummy little bite?
Here are some photos us making these rich and tasty poppers. They were so easy! We just filled peppers with cream cheese, wrapped them with bacon, and cooked. And then we ate ‘em up!
The other recipe we tried was for Steak with Onion Blue Cheese Sauce. Talk about simple and decadent! Onions and blue cheese go great with grilled steak, and the rich creaminess of the sauce sent it through the roof. I have to admit I found myself eating a second helping of the onions, even after my steak was gone!
Ree has much more to offer, too, so go check out her site and get ready to satisfy your appetite. I’m getting hungry again just thinking about it!

I have made PW’s jalapeno bacon wraps several times and I love them. They are so super easy. The hardest part is cleaning the peppers. Just to change things up I will toss in herbs from the garden into the cream cheese. I think I know what I will be doing with the last batch of jals from my garden.
You are evil. Not because of the jalapeno bacon thingies, but because of the link to PW – I have heard so much about her, but never read her. And now my family is WAITING ON ME and has been for at least half an hour and it took everything within me to rip myself away from reading her “how they met” story so I can leave work. WORK. Ha. Brilliant. She’s an excellent writer.
Kelly, I know EXACTLY what you mean
I made the onion blue cheese sauce. My guys loved it. They put it on their baked potatoes. I ate mine on the steak. They all said that this was something I could make again. I don’t hear that often. It is usually “that is OK but not worth making again” The onion blue cheese sauce was a BIG hit.
That’s awesome, Kris! I love it on baked potatoes, too.
omgosh, you just combined my two favorite foods in the world. I think I hear angels crying! I am making this tomorrow! If we like it, heck, maybe I’ll make it for Thanksgiving!!
