As Chica mentioned yesterday, we’ve been quite busy lately with some community projects. It seems every time we go to do a community project, it involves us making a whole lot of one thing. We’ve done water bottle holders in bulk, crayons, teddy bear kits and denim drawstring pouches. Now I can add baking approximately 500 cupcakes to the list. Yes, that is A LOT of cupcakes! Luckily, I have two ovens in my kitchen, but it still took me pretty much the entire day to make them.
The cupcakes were for a local youth festival where we set up a booth where we let the kids use the swirled icing technique to decorate a cupcake for free. Needless to say, our booth was a huge hit! And we found it rather funny that we were set up right next to the health department booth where the kids were required to do an exercise to get a prize. Oh, the irony! I did manage to slip over to the booth next door and get my flu shot, which was very convenient.
Here’s a picture of my kitchen table covered in almost 500 cupcakes. They wouldn’t all fit, so the rest were on the counter. The rest of the pictures are from the fair of the kids decorating cupcakes. They (and we) had such a great time! We can’t wait to go back next year!

One comment so far:
We had so much fun with the kids that day. One thing that was really clear during the event is that this icing technique not only produces great results, but it’s easy enough for kids as young as 3 to do it all by themselves. They loved it!
