Remember a couple weeks ago when Jo told you about her procrastination on the Advent calendar? (Which she STILL hasn’t worked on, by the way!) Well it was just the boost I needed to work on my own procrastinated project — slip-covering some chairs.
It all started last November, just before Jo’s birthday. I wasn’t sure what to get her for a gift, and she said she would love it if I made new slipcovers for the pair of rather ugly (but very comfortable) chairs she had in her bedroom. I thought it was a great idea, and decided to cover one chair for her birthday and the other for Christmas. She quickly picked out some fabric and I was all set.
Theoretically, anyway. But I never started sewing. The months began to tick by, but still no progress. I would say, “Oh, I really need to work on your chairs” and she would let me off the hook with a sweet, “Don’t worry, I’m in no hurry.” Then holidays came and went, and summer fun was a higher priority, and before I knew it, ten months had gone by. When I saw Jo ratting herself out over that Advent calendar, I wanted to tease her, until I realized that I was just as guilty. I had put it off for TEN months! It’s almost her birthday again, and I hadn’t finished last year’s gift!
So I kicked it into high gear over the weekend and made the two slipcovers, which came out really great! All I have left to do is take them to her house (along with the one chair I had borrowed in order to fit the covers) and set them up, and that corner of her room will be pretty and comfy once again.
It feels really good to have that project completed (or almost so) and off my to-do list. Whew! I sure hope Jo thinks it was worth the wait.
Update — 09/14/09
I finished! I took the slipcovers and chair over to Jo’s house this weekend and put them in place. Aren’t they pretty?

Don’t feel guilty, Kris. Feel inspired!
I LOVE my new chairs! It was well worth the wait. Thank you, Chica! You are going to have a hard time topping this one for my birthday this year.
Chica, I just thought of something. Maybe you could finish my advent calendar house for me.
Hah, nice try missy! You started it, and you can finish it
