Feature Fridays – Recycled handles for crochet hooks Posted by Chica

Jo and I love Earth-friendly craft projects (just check out our collection of “green” posts) and we are always excited to see new project ideas that involve recycling, upcycling, or reusing. So we were tickled pink when we were reading Lady Willow’s Treehouse and saw a fun idea for turning old pens and other items into neat, recycled handles for crochet hooks of all sizes.

Having done a little bit of crochet myself, I know how frustrating it can be to hold the tinier hooks comfortably in your hand while you work. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for those with arthritis or whose fingers aren’t as nimble in colder weather. What those tiny hooks need is a big fat handle!

Lady Willow will show you how to raid your desk drawer to find lots of great potential handles. From the cheapest of stick pens to the finest wooden writing instruments, anything is fair game, as long as it’s the right size and comfortable in your hand. She even makes a handle out of an old Sharpie! So be sure to check out Lady Willow’s instructions (and her downloadable PDF file) and get ready to have some fun.

This is perfect for older crocheters or those with problems with their hands. This is a great way, also, to personalize my crochet hooks.
    Great tip!

I am making a set for my grandmother for Christmas. She will be quite pleased, I believe.
