Quick Tip – Remove spray paint from your hands Posted by Jo
June 18, 2009

Last night, I spray painted my hand with silver metallic paint.  No, not on purpose!  I went in to wash it off the best I could with just soap and water, and soon realized that wasn’t getting me anywhere.  Then I noticed my bottle of Sally Hansen moisturizing nail polish remover on the sink.  Hmmm… I bet acetone would get that right off…  And sure enough, it did!  Many of you might have already thought of this but if not, the next time you find yourself with spray paint all over you, just reach for a bottle of nail polish remover to take it right off without too harsh of chemicals.

I too discovered this trick in recent weeks before reading this post. Mine was non-acetone and also worked well. I wanted to comment though because I mistakenly left hot water running in the sink while I washed my hands with the polish remover and the fumes were overwhelming for a while until it dissipated! Cooler water temperature would likely have prevented that from happening. So the moral of my comment is to not run hot water in the sink while using the polish remover the clean your hands. Love your site, Chica and Jo!

Thanks for the tip, but I just wanted to mention that acetone is an *extremely* harsh chemical, so you might want to switch to a non-acetone formula.

Hi James. We’re not sure if that would work or not, but I guess it’s worth trying. Let us know how it goes :)
