My daughter has been invited to a Spring/Easter party where each guest was asked to decorate a bonnet to wear to the party. I stumbled across some basic bonnets in the bargain bin while shopping at Target the other day. If you do not have a Target nearby or they are sold out, here is a link to some other basic bonnets that will also work.

I asked my almost-four-year-old what should go on her hat. She immediately said it should have flowers and bright ribbon and maybe a bee. Hmmm… an interesting assortment, but this is a joint project so I went with her inspiration. I had received the Walk in My Garden Cricut cartridge for Christmas so I decided this would be the perfect project to try it out. I let my daughter flip through the book to pick out which items she wanted on her hat. She chose the snail, bee, and caterpillar along with a couple of flowers. I told her we should make the ribbon around the hat be green to look like grass and she picked out the fuzzy lime green from my stash.

We cut each image from the Cricut and used green chenille stems to make the flowers stand up over top of the hat. It is a very silly hat but it turned out to be her favorite because the flowers dance around when she wears it. I don’t expect it to stand the test of time so I have put it away until it is time for her to attend her party.

I already had plans for the second hat when I completed my “felt your own flower corsage pins” tutorial last weekend. I thought the flower I turned into a pin would look really cute circling the band of the hat. All I did was follow all of the steps in my previous post for felting the flowers together, but I left off the pin. Then I just hot glued them around the brim of the hat. This hat is a bit more practical and durable so my daughter has free reign to play dress up with it whenever she wants. So far, it has held together great! She also likes this one but not quite as much as the bouncy flower version.
