I admit it, I am a shop-a-holic. My favorite kind of shopping is hunting for the perfect gift for everyone on my Christmas list. With one of my favorite holidays coming up (Black Friday) I wanted to share some gift ideas with you all. When I started making my lists, I realized I could go on and on but I tried to net it down to the things that I personally own and absolutely love so I will therefore be giving as a gift or things that I think are really neat and already have a recipient in mind. Please browse our gift guide and let us know what is hot on your shopping list.
- ASUS Eee PC
: I received one of these mini-computers for my birthday and I LOVE it! I even gave it a nickname, Lilliput. Yes, sad, I know. However, my Lilliput does everything I need it to do for my personal computing time. I am even writing this blog entry on it right now! Great for those who need a simple, portable computer for email, web surfing, blogging. Not so great if you want to run an entire business.
- Cuisinart Griddler: My parents bought one of these for my sandwich-loving husband. We use it so often, it has earned a coveted spot on the counter. We use it for sandwiches, of course, but also pancakes, french toast and burgers. This is a great gift to give to a family.
- Flip Video Mino Series Camcorder: Someone on my Christmas list is getting one of these. They are so easy to use and tote around, you will find yourself taking it everywhere and leaving the regular video camera behind. It’s perfect for taking those small movies of the kids that you just want to post to YouTube for the grandparents to see. Just plug it in to your USB port and you are good to go!
- Leapster L-Max
: My daughter loves her Leapster. She was three when we bought it for her and she keeps growing into this fantastic toy. It gives her hours of entertainment on long car trips and most of the games have an educational aspect.
- Nuvi GPS
: My husband doesn’t even go to the mailbox anymore without his GPS. Which is a good thing, since he can’t find his way home from there! This is the must-have gift for the man who is always lost or the frequent road warrior.
Wii Fit and/or Wii: If you already have a Wii, get the Wii Fit to go with it. We love our Wii Fit here in Jo’s house. My toddler likes playing the hula hoop game, my husband loves all the balancing games and I like the yoga and strength training.
- Chumby: So what’s Chumby anyway? Chumby is a souped up alarm clock that delivers things like the weather, news, celebrity gossip, podcasts, music, and more. They’ve designed a million widgets to customize your Chumby to display just what you want it to and nothing more.
- Atari Flashback 2.0
: I was completely addicted to Pong as a kid! This simple system comes with 30 games pre-loaded so you just plug it into your television and play. Warning: teenagers in the house might roll their eyes incessantly while you play!
- Lincoln Logs: I remember trying to fit the wooden planks between the plastic holders perfectly to make my roofs and it never did work out quite right. Never fear, the logs are still the same but you can now get sets with formed plastic roofs. The sets with the additional figures make playing a lot more fun as well.
- The Original Christmas Classics: (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer/Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town/Frosty the Snowman/Frosty Returns/Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol/Little Drummer Boy/Cricket on the Hearth)
: Growing up, these shows were an event in and of themselves! I couldn’t wait for the special Christmas programs to come on and once Thanksgiving rolled around, I made sure to check the T.V. Guide to make sure I wouldn’t miss them. With this set, you’ll never worry about missing them again and can enjoy them over and over again.
- Melissa and Doug 60-Piece Standard Unit Blocks: These blocks are about as classic toy as it comes. A good friend suggested I look into these for my daughter and I am so glad she did. They are timeless and good for one-year-olds to grandparents. The quality is spectacular.
- Easy Bake Oven: My daughter is receiving one of these for Christmas this year. She loves to help me mix and bake anything in the kitchen so I thought it was time she received this classic gift. This is also appeasing the child within me that never got an Easy Bake oven, a tragic incident that I have never let my parents forget.
- Swiss Army Knife
: A classic gift for the man in your life, this handy tool has lots of customized options.
- Miniature garden: This mini-garden is even edible. What a great gift for someone who doesn’t have the space for a large garden or for an avid gardener to keep a the office.
- Sigg water bottles
: These come in all sizes and colors and I can attest that my daughter adores her Paddington Bear version.
- Give a tree: For the person on your list who has everything, give a bit of charity. Chica discussed this earlier this year as a great memorial gift and I have found myself using the idea for anniversaries and commemorative birthdays as well.
- Shop at
ebay’s World of Good Marketplace for handmade items that will have a positive impact on the environment as well as their crafters. Check out the post I wrote on it to see some examples of what you might find there.
- I am Not a Paper Cup Reusable Mug
: This just amused me because of how cute it looks. I like to drink out of the lids like this better than a thermos bottle so this would be great to take that one cup of morning coffee with me on the go.
- Handmade items: Check out our tutorials for making a gift this year. The folding photo cubes, ballet dance bags, jars of mulling spices, play silks, or airline travel kits would all make great gifts.
- Envirosax shopping bags
: one of my favorite gifts to give now and everyone loves them! They come in such a wide variety of patterns, it’s easy to find some to suit each person on your list. Buy in the packs as a gift or buy just one to use as a stocking stuffer.

Nice mix of classic toys and new must haves.
Did you ever see that REAL plant that MOVES when you Tickle It!
The TickleMe Plant kits are a great green low cost gift that will make anyone smile! TickleMe The leaves quickly fold and even the branches droop when tickled. I found this to be a great stress reliever in my office and what a conversation piece!. You may have seen the TickleMe Plant in the botanical gardens or on the premier of CSI NY. Now it can be grown indoors year round. It even produces cotton candy like pink flower
No green thumb needed. I found it on line at http://www.ticklemeplant.com
My grandparents had one of these when I was a kid and I thought it was the best thing ever! I had totally forgotten about it. What a nice stroll down memory lane and a great idea for my grandmother!
