Have you ever worked hard making the best pie filling ever, only to realize that you have no idea how to make the edge of the pie crust look pretty?
You eat with your eyes as much as your mouth, so it’s worth taking a few minutes to flute your pie crust and give it a polished look. It’s easy to do, too! I’m going to describe the technique for you and then we have a video that shows you just how to do it.
- Lay the pie crust into the pan and let it fall over the edges a bit.
- Fold the edges under, making a double-thick layer on the edge of the pan
- Make a V shape with your left hand by curling your index finger and putting your thumb up against it then pointing the end of your thumb out.
- Hold the V shape next to the edge of the pie crust and use the thumb of your right hand to push the dough gently into the V, forming a curve in the dough.
- Move your hands down about an inch or two and make another curved next to the first one.
- Continue around the pan until the entire crust is fluted.
It’s a simple technique, but sort of hard to describe, so here’s a video I made that shows it a lot better.
