While visiting some family friends recently, I was offered some candy to snack on. I was floored when I saw the creative and clever dispenser they were using for the candy — an old-fashioned mason jar bird feeder!
I learned that this particular style of feeder is actually intended for feeding baby chicks, but I think it found a much better use feeding candy to people! This adorable dispenser is the perfect size for small candies such as Jelly Belly jelly beans, M&M’s,
or Skittles.
The somewhat small holes are just right for taking one or two pieces of candy at a time, which will help keep folks (like my husband!) from taking a whole handful at once. It’s certainly quite a conversation piece, too!
If you want to try this trick at home, check your local home improvement store or feed store for feeders. They are a little bit hard to find online, but I did find a few listed on eBay, and another variety is available on Amazon.
I believe they all take standard-size Mason jars, which are available at any grocery store.
