As I’ve told you before, I love my super sharp kitchen knives and they have me so spoiled that whenever I travel away from home and need to prepare food, I end up struggling with whatever knives are available because they are always dull. Whether it’s vacation, camping, or just visiting friends, I always end up wishing I’d brought at least one of my knives with me, but I never could find a practical and safe way to do so.
So I was delighted when Jo gave me some new Wüsthof knife guards for my birthday (which was yesterday, yay!). They are available in a variety of sizes (and in white
) and they totally do the trick! The sturdy plastic sleeves slip securely onto the knife blade and don’t slide off. I am amazed at how well they hold on and how secure they feel. The sharp point and blade are completely covered, safe, and ready for travel.
I can’t wait until the next time I go camping and can actually take a good knife with me. Prepping food will be so much easier!
By the way, these guards are also great if you store your knives in a kitchen drawer. Rather than risk losing a finger every time you reach in there to find a utensil, get a couple of these guards for your knives and then root around without fear. I personally use wall-mounted magnetic knife bar for most of my knives at home, but my good carving knife is in a drawer and is now protected with one of these guards.

I just found your website.
So, you like really sharp knives…
So do I…I am a professional sharpener.
Have you ever tried Japanese knives, where there is a blade bevel only on one side and the other side of the knife goes straight to the cutting edge?
Normal knives have bevels on both sides of the blade.
I have true Japanese knives at home and they are a dream to use.
Hi Gary. I do have a Santoku knife, but I’m not sure if that would qualify as a “true” Japanese knife or not
A sharp knife definitely makes all the difference in the world when cooking!
For the knife I take with me, I folded a piece of cardboard in half, a little longer than the blade (so it won’t poke through), trimed it to fit & used duct tape to hold it together. The tape also makes the “holder” last a long time.
Clever solution, Rena!
