Pot racks can be very expensive if you want a nice, sturdy one. To appease my husband’s sense of a budget, I tried to think of a way around the costly price. Inspiration struck as I was wandering through my local nursery and caught my purse strap on a garden trellis. I soon realized that I could transform an inexpensive garden trellis into a rack to display and store my pots and pans!
Select any trellis you like that will fit the space in your kitchen. I prefer using a metal one because it is more durable but a weathered wooden one might work well in a country kitchen. You will need to remove the parts of the trellis that are supposed to stick into the ground. To do this, use a hacksaw to carefully cut the legs off flush with the bottom of the trellis part. If the trellis is not the color you prefer, you can spray paint it with hammered metal spray paint. You can use any other spray paint that will match your decor, but I really like the textured effect the hammered paint gives.
I pre-drilled the holes into the trellis before spray painting to give it a more finished look. I also spray painted the screw heads to match the trellis. This probably goes without saying but when you drill the screws into the wall to hang your rack, be sure and hit the studs!
To hang your pots, purchase S-hooks of various sizes or basket hooks for larger items. We also hang our colanders and other kitchen essentials from the rack. The final touch is a basket that can hang at the top to hold your pot lids. Here’s one that might work for you: Chrome Stacking Basket
